Shanghai Rotterdam Water Conference

As part of Holland Water Week at the World Expo 2010, the City of Rotterdam will co-operate with the Shanghai Water Authority in organizing the Shanghai-Rotterdam Water Conference on 10 June.

As a result of climate change, both delta cities face the same challenges, and both Shanghai and Rotterdam confront these challenges by focusing on quality in water management as well as quality of the urban environment. Sharing knowledge and experience with respect to best practices will, therefore, benefit both cities. The Shanghai-Rotterdam Water Conference offers an opportunity to discuss issues such as stormwater management, adaptive methods to collect and store rainwater and ecological flood management.

The Shanghai-Rotterdam Water Conference is a unique opportunity to learn more about the adaptive approaches of two major delta cities and to get acquainted with the key officials responsible for climate adaptation in both cities.

You can also visit us at the World Expo, at the RotterdamWaterCity pavilion in the Urban Best Practice Area at the Shanghai World Expo 2010. In this pavilion. Rotterdam shows how a metropolis and world port city like Rotterdam handles flood management now and in the future, despite climate change. Participation in the World Expo is part of the Rotterdam Climate Proof programme that aims to make the city climate proof by 2025.
